This year will be Shaun McGrath’s third Global Session. He delivers a unique blend of hair fashion/sculptural art using primarily hair from the salon floor and found fibers to build his creations using the canvas of the human head. Shaun forged his hairdressing path by establishing notoriety through the arts with a number of exhibitions throughout the UK and Australia of his wig works, before gaining the attention of the wider hair community. At the time, he used objects to create the aesthetic of hair, but as his craft evolved it became more about using the hair to create an object, which was then set against the human form. In 2018, Shaun won the Australian Hair Fashion Award for Avant-Garde Hairdresser of the Year with a collection entirely built of hair taken from salon floors. He strives to continue to create ever more complex hair creations, challenging himself and the industry while engaging with the greater hair community.
